TRAINING IN TRADITIONAL AIKIDO

Open to students ages 5 years and older, the traditional Aikido program follows the same guidelines as the United States Aikido Federation (USAF). Encompassing smooth, balanced and coordinated movements, traditional Aikido takes place in a non-competitive atmosphere, fostering the training of mind, body, and spirit and teaching students how to resolve conflicts in a non-disruptive manner. Over the course of this program, students will learn how to defend themselves against various attacks, such as kicks, punches, strikes, single- or two-hand grabs, chokes and multiple-person attacks, through blending, turning, pivoting, circling and spiraling techniques, redirecting an attacker’s energy in the reverse direction.

Why Aikido?

Aikido may be translated as “the way of harmonizing with universal energy.” It is an excellent form of physical exercise and self -defense and can also be followed as a spiritual path.

The study of Aikido technique teaches smooth, balanced, and coordinated movement in a non-competitive, cooperative atmosphere. The mental and spiritual aspects of Aikido training develop within students better focus, self-control, and empathy, and during classes and training sessions students strive with one another to refine their movements and further their understanding of Aikido principles. The practice of Aikido combines the training of the mind, body, and spirit in a single unified discipline.
