Parent Child Swim Lessons: Building Bonds and Learning With Confidence

Parent Child Swim Lessons

The SPLASH Academy has had more adults in the pool this summer than ever before! Due to the new Parent/ Child lesson structure, all of our younger swimmers have the opportunity to bring a buddy in the pool with them. So far we’ve welcomed older siblings, grandparents, parents and guardians into group swim lessons with open arms and plenty of splashes. As I reflect on the previous two weeks of classes, I am reminded that we often find blessings in new, sometimes strange situations.

I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing great triumphs in the water this season; Level 2 swimmers have begun swimming full laps, PreSchool swimmers are moving off the stairs into deeper water, and Adult classes are gaining popularity as individuals dive out of their comfort zones! The triumphs don’t end there, the happiest time of the day is when I see children in the pool bonding and making memories with their family members. Our pool buddies have a unique opportunity to be the student and the teacher this summer. They are there to support their swimmer when needed, and take as much info home to practice as they can. The support they offer is not always physical. They are often there to help their child mentally prepare for swim and practice being brave. I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing daughters reluctantly jump into the pool, because dad is in the pool waiting to catch her, and mother’s excited and listening to directions, so her sons copy and do the same. The help is much appreciated, and I am confident that these families will leave Pinnacle with lasting memories and aquatic skills to keep them safe and healthy all summer long.

Now, I just have to convince the parents that they can stand further away from the children as they swim.. But that will come with practice!
