Smile Scholars: Remote Learning with a SMILE

Here it is, September is upon us.  The 2020-2021 school year has begun and it is very different than last September.  So many decisions for us as parents regarding our children’s education.  Virtual, hybrid, switching to online schooling… So many options on top of the uncertainty of how our own jobs are going to run things.  It seems to me that the unpredictability of it all is the worst part of it all.  So, that being said, we have decided to run a new program to address the needs of our families in our community.  

Our SMILE Scholars program will provide a safe and healthy place for families to bring their children so that parents can work remotely/go to work.  A place that will provide assistance and guidance to children with their online learning and a place to play after school work is done.  We will provide supplies such as pencils, crayons, markers, glue and paper for any additional projects that need to be done.  Each child will have their own desk and tri-fold board to organize their items needed for online learning. Lunches and snacks will be scheduled according to each child’s needs.  In addition, each child will be provided with a Communication Log (composition notebook) to ensure proper communication and success with each student in their virtual learning experience.

As each child finishes their work for the day, he/she will have the option of an activity such as puzzles, arts/crafts, games,and  free play.  

Afterwards, we will go into the racquetball courts or outside (weather permitting) for games (soccer, poison ball, volleyball, etc..)

Our SMILE Scholars will be run using the same health and safety guidelines we used for our SMILE summer camp.  Masks and face coverings will be required and parents are required each day to sign in/out their child using a no-contact google form  to ensure the safety of each child enrolled in our program.  In addition, we will be requiring parents to fill out health forms for each child who is enrolled in our SMILE Scholars program for emergency and allergy purposes. 

Running this program was an easy decision to make when it comes to providing families with a solution to an ever-changing situation.  We will do everything we can to guide and assist your children in their online learning and when the learning is done we will be here to provide a safe and healthy environment to relax and have FUN!
