What is Wallyball: A Beginner’s Guide to the Rules and Gameplay

Introduction to Wallyball

Definition and History of Wallyball

Originated in the mid-1970s, Wallyball is a variation of volleyball played in a racquetball court.  Joe Garcia is credited with inventing the sport, which quickly gained popularity due to its fast-paced nature and the unique challenge of playing within an enclosed space and incorporating similar rules and techniques of traditional volleyball

Over the years, Wallyball has evolved with standardized rules and organized tournaments, making it a recognized sport in many recreational centers and gyms around the world.

Gameplay and Rules

Wallyball is played similarly to volleyball but with a few key differences. The game is typically played with two teams of 2-4 players each with the objective to score points by grounding the ball on the opponent's side of the court. Matches are usually played to 15 or 21 points, depending on the preference of the players or the rules of the tournament.

The key difference of wallyball vs. volleyball is that the walls are considered to be in play, meaning the ball can bounce off the walls and will continue to be in play without penalty. This adds an extra layer of strategy and excitement to the game.

Along with this the ball is also allowed to hit multiple walls or the ceiling and still be in play as well as, A ball crossing below the net, across the vertical plane, can be played back by your side as long as it does not exceed three hits.
